The archeological exploration of Jerusalem has undergone unprecedented expansion in the last thirty years. This was true already in the years of Jordanian rule, with the relatively liberal attitude of religious bodies, both Muslim and Christian. After the reunification of the city in 1967 greater means were placed at the disposal of archeologist for exploration of the City of David, the esplanade vicinity and the ruins of the ancient Jewish quarter.
